Teaching every child to read!

We are determined to teach every child to read, so we have developed different programmes to ensure you can meet the needs of all your leaners.

There are now three Little Wandle programmes:

Each programme has been carefully designed to teach the same curriculum at different paces to specific groups of children.

Children in Reception and Year 1

Most children in Reception and Year 1 will follow the main Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised programme. Some children will need additional support; they should have the Daily Keep-up.

Children with complex SEND issues that affect cognition will follow the Little Wandle SEND Programme.

Use this chart to help you work out the correct programme for your children in Reception and Year 1.

Find the SEND programme in the Weekly lesson content area.
Collins reps will guide you to purchase the right resources for your setting.

Children in Year 2 +

We urgently need to teach any child in Year 2 or above who cannot read.

Every child in Year 2 and above who cannot read at age-related expectations needs urgent targeted support so that they can access the curriculum and enjoy reading as soon as possible.

Little Wandle Rapid Catch-up is a complete catch-up programme that mirrors the main phonics programme but has a faster pace. It has been created to help children catch up quickly.

Children with complex SEND issues that affect cognition will follow the SEND Programme.

Use this chart to help you work out the correct programme for your children in Year 2 +.

Rapid Catch-up is taught for 20-30 minutes every day. This includes the phonics teaching and reading practice session.
