Curriculum for Excellence

Curriculum for Excellence is the learning journey for young people ages 3-18 living in Scotland

The purpose of the Curriculum for Excellence is to help each and every young person in Scotland become a successful learner, a confident individual, a responsible citizen and an effective contributor.

Curriculum for Excellence is the learning journey for young people ages 3-18 living in Scotland

The Scottish Government curriculum strategy recognises that learning is lifelong and so this new curriculum aims to ensure that all young people who grow up in Scotland develop the skills, attributes and knowledge they will need to have in life, learning and work throughout their whole lives.

Leckie’s publishing program focuses on this Senior Phase of the curriculum and supports teachers and students with a wide range of resources for the National 4&5 and new CfE Higher qualifications. These qualifications will help young people get into the workforce or secure the college or university place they want.

A common expression you will hear when Curriculum for Excellence is discussed is ‘Outcomes and Experiences’. This is the recognition of the quality and nature of the learning. Learning ‘Experiences’ are the attributes and capabilities developed from active engagement, motivation and depth of learning.

‘Outcomes’ clearly set out what is to be achieved from the learning ‘Experience’. Experiences and outcomes extend beyond the classroom into the whole life and ethos of the school as well as into interdisciplinary learning within curriculum areas and subjects.
