National Trails

National Trails are long distance walking, cycling and horse riding routes through the best landscapes in England and Wales. In Scotland the equivalent trails are called Scotland’s Great Trails. You can now find one of these trails, The John Muir Way, as part of our Adventure series.

There are 15 National Trails. Walkers can enjoy them all, cyclists and horse riders can enjoy the Pennine Bridleway and the South Downs Way, as well as sections of the other Trails. In total, England and Wales have around 2,500 miles (4,000 Km) of National Trails.

National Trail Road Maps

The National Trail Road Maps have been designed to help with the initial planning stages. The full National Trail routes are marked on our clear road mapping which features A roads, B roads, towns, villages and a wide range of Points of Interest. The maps also feature useful information such as the start and finish coordinates and a scale bar for working out how far you could be walking in one day.

Walk Unlimited has recently chosen A-Z as their official mapping partner. Walk Unlimited, are responsible for promoting the National Trails in England and Wales and dedicated to supporting and encouraging people to walk more.

Walk Unlimited work with a variety of organisations including government departments, public health bodies and charities. All proceeds are channeled back directly into the National Trails and towards getting more people outside and enjoying walking.

We are delighted to be working closely with a company that is so dedicated to getting out into the great outdoors. The National Trails are a group of long distance footpaths recognised by the UK government that weave around some of the best countryside that this land has to offer. Our popular Adventure books are the perfect tool for discovering these and many other areas of the UK.
